DC micro brush motor Used
As we dicuss above , you will be doubt "Where are brushed dc motors used ? " According to small dc motor specifications, we divide into DC electric brushed motor and carbon brushed motor. Here we will show you more difference between them.
DC electric Brushed Motor

Automotive Parts: Electric brush motors are widely used in automotive components like windshield wiper motors and power window regulators. These applications require reliable current transmission over extended periods, and electric brushes provide consistent conductivity and mechanical stability.
Industrial Machinery: In some industrial equipment, such as machine tools and conveyors, electric brush motors drive small components or provide power. These applications require electric brushes to maintain stable electrical performance under heavy loads while accommodating frequent starts and stops.
DC carbon Brushed Motor

Power Tools: Carbon-brushed micro-motors are widely used in power tools such as drills and angle grinders. These tools require high rotational speeds and continuous current supply, and carbon brushes provide stable conductivity while reducing friction through self-lubrication, extending motor life.
Household Appliances: Devices like vacuum cleaners and blenders use carbon-brushed micro-motors to ensure stable power delivery and long operating times during use.
DC Micro motor Types
We differ the DC micro motor by rotor ,it can be divided into three typical series:Permannet magnet type, shunt-wound type,series-wound type.
1.Permanent magnet types
Permanent magnet brush DC motor is the most favorite among all brushed DC motors. This applies stable magnet to generate the magnetic field in the stator. This magnetic field is needed to operate the motor. The response to the change of input voltage of this motor is quite good. The speed of motor is easily controllable.
NOTE: Guangdong Lihua Mechatronics Co.,Ltd. focus on permanent magenet types motor with voltage below 36 V .Welcome to consult and inquiry our DC micro motor .

2.Shunt-wound types
The shunt-wound brushed DC motor is made with the parallel connection between field coil and the rotor. Thus, stable torque at less speed can be easily generated by using this motor. This kind of motor is perfect in industrial and automotive uses with rigid speed control conditions.

3.Series-wound types
The shunt-wound brush DC motor is made with the series connection between field coil and the rotor. The electric current in the stator and rotor is gained under load condition which makes them perfect for high-torque uses such as cranes and winches.

how does a dC motor work
When it comes to DC micro motor , you will be dout how the structure of a motor and how they work sucessfully by power.
Now let 'us show you how a DC micro motor work in your machine.
DC micro motor is typically consists of a pair of permanent magnets named as the stator and a motor coil named as the rotor connected to a commutator. In this motor, armature winding is on rotar and permanent magnets are always on the stator. The current-carrying conductors always locates on the turning part. practically, these conductors get power from direct current power source. It uses metallic / carbon brushes (which rotate along with the rotor) to transfer the current to the coil.

When power supplies to the motor through battery or any DC source, electricity flows from the source to the armature through the brushes which usually locates on opposite sides of the motors shaft. Brushes are the very importent part of this motor. These brushes transfer electric current to the armature through physical contact with the commutator.

As soon as the armature coil gets energy or power, it begins to behave like a magnet. And at this point its poles start repelling the poles of the permanent magnet which makes up stator. As the poles repel, the motor shaft where the armature coil attached begins to rotate with a speed and torque. The speed and torque depends on the strength of the magnetic field around the armature. Usually the strength of the magnetic field is a function of the voltage applied at the brushes and the strength of the permanent magnet used for the stator.

We choose the fundemental parts of DC mini brushed motor to analyse, let'us get more information about it.

1.Stator (Picture 1 )
The stator is the stationary, outside component of a DC motor. It generates a magnetic field around the rotor using either electromagnetic windings or a permanent magnet. This magnetic field is what drives the armature's rotation.
2.Rotor (Picture 2 )
Also referred to as the armature, this part of the motor is made up of arms surrounded by one or more electric windings. When energized by an external current, these electric windings generate a magnetic field. The magnetic poles in the rotor are attracted to the opposing poles the stator field generates and repelled by their similar poles. This reaction is what causes the rotor to spin.
3.Commutator (Picture 3 )
Since DC motors don't use external current switching devices, they rely on a mechanical connector instead. This connector is called the commutator. Commutators make a connection between the rotors and the brushes. They are comprised of a segmented copper sleeve mounted onto the rotating shaft. Commutators receive electric current from the brushes.
4.Brushes (Picture 4 In the end-cover)
The motor's brushes are connected to the DC power source. When voltage is applied, and the motor turns, the brushes rotate and slide over the commutator. This creates a variable magnetic field.
Things to Notice When Designing DC Brushed Motor
Select appropriate driver components
When designing a motor drive circuit, you need to select an appropriate gate driver IC or a motor driver IC that integrates a power switch and driver.
Consider the motor’s current and voltage specifications
When designing, you need to ensure that the driver can handle the motor’s current and voltage requirements.
PWM drive and speed control
Using pulse width modulation signals to control motor speed, the frequency and duty cycle of the PWM signal need to be considered.
Loss and switching strategy
Under PWM drive, you need to pay attention to the loss and switching method. Losses during the steady-state period are mainly conduction losses, and switching losses happen during on/off transitions.
Circuit protection
To prevent back electromotive force from damaging the transistor, diodes need to be connected across the motor. At the same time, when designing the H-bridge circuit, it must be ensured that under any circumstances, the MOSFET on the same half bridge will not be turned on at the same time to avoid short circuits and damage.
Brushes and commutators
During designing, the impact of brushes and commutators on the wear and life of the motor needs to be considered.
Feedback mechanism
To accurately control the speed, it may be necessary to introduce a feedback mechanism, such as using a speed sensor or the BEMF voltage generated by the motor.
Motor type selection
Select the appropriate motor type according to application requirements.

Question
I bought a DC micro motor but during operating time, the mini motor is heating .So what exactly causes DC motors to overheat? What is the solution ?

Analysis & Solution
1. Power supply voltage is high or low, high voltage makes the magnetic flux density saturation, resulting in excessive current, causing overheating; voltage is too low, the motor is unstable, running fast and slow, resulting in overheating, you should find the power supply department to solve the problem, and install a suitable power regulator.
2. The stator and rotor iron core has problems, resulting in iron loss heat, technical maintenance personnel can overhaul the iron core, troubleshooting
3........
Despite their effectiveness, brushed DC motors demand consistent maintenance to retain their efficiency and extend their lifespan. The brushes, crucial for transferring electrical current between the stationary and rotating parts of the motor, are subject to wear over time. This wear leads to increased friction, reduced efficiency, and potential performance issues. Regular maintenance routines encompass several tasks that collectively contribute to the motor’s reliability. Cleaning the commutator, often prone to debris accumulation, ensures smooth and uninterrupted current transfer. Correct alignment and balancing of the motor’s components prevent excessive vibration, enhancing both performance and longevity. Regularly testing the motor’s electrical parameters helps identify any deviations from optimal performance and allows for timely adjustments.
Brushed DC motors are an integral part of various applications, from household appliances to industrial machinery. Understanding their operational principles and recognizing the significance of regular maintenance is essential for ensuring their sustained performance. By implementing a proactive maintenance regimen, individuals and industries can reap the rewards of enhanced efficiency, prolonged lifespan, and consistent operation from these reliable workhorses of the mechanical world.
Keeping motors clean and clear of brush-wear carbon dust minimizes grounding, arcing, and destructive sparking. Some of this dust goes into the formation of the film on the commutator; but additional dust may become loose and settle within the motor. This, combined with other particulates from the air, can cause grounding. When this happens and the insulation of the motor fails, motors can experience catastrophic failure. Particulates can also make it difficult for motor parts to move freely as they need to. Finally, particulate buildup can inhibit normal dissipation of heat through the outside surfaces of the motor unit frame and make the motor operate at a higher temperature than is ideal.
Black commutators are common in DC motor units. Nondestructive sparking is tolerable and pinpoint sparking that does not cause brush or commutator deterioration is also acceptable. Arcing and destructive sparking, however, can electrically erode both the brush and commutator surfaces. If not corrected, this can eventually lead to equipment failure. Arcing and destructive sparking can be identified by the previously mentioned unsatisfactory commutator conditions in which burning occurs, such as slot bar or pitch bar burning.
Carbon brushes are the least expensive component of a DC motor unit, but the most frequently replaced. Depending on the motor unit and service conditions, carbon brushes are likely to last from 3 months to 3 years. Brush life is understandably less important than commutator life, and brush grades are chosen with this in mind – carefully selected to suit the motors’ specific application. Primarily made from graphite, some grades include copper or other metals as abrasive or cleaning materials in service conditions where excessive brush film buildup is likely. Similarly, impregnations, or chemical compounds that are introduced into the graphite during production, help optimize brush film and protect motor unit components. Selecting the appropriate brush grade helps to avoid commutator damage, arcing, and destructive sparking.
